When selecting a laptop, think about battery life
Laptops are invaluable for getting things done, but they’re also only as good as their battery life. We take our laptops everywhere and expect batteries to keep up with us. For that reason, long battery life tops the list for many laptop buyers.
Lenovo systems are designed to give you extra long battery life, and you can expect up to 10 hours on some systems. With extended battery options, some systems can last as long as 30 hours.
Lenovo’s laptops are designed to run cool, which is one of the reasons they take little power. The less the cooling fan has to run, the less battery power it takes. (Smart air flow offers another benefit—it’s a lot more comfortable on your wrists and lap to work on a cool system than a hot one.)Here are some of the other ways Lenovo laptops extend their battery life.
Pre-set power setting, including:
- Increased idle time for the processor when system is not in use
- Automatic dimming of the display
- Power efficient playback for DVDs
Power Manager Lenovo laptops come loaded with Power Manager to help you easily manage your power settings. Just slide the bar towards the left for higher performance or to the right for longer battery life. Power Manager handles all the behind-the-scenes work.
Battery Stretch Fight the dreaded “low battery” notification. Power Manager’s Battery Stretch automatically turns off certain functions, like the optical drive and wireless, in order to squeeze out those extra crucial minutes of power you need to get the job done.
Battery quality We set above-industry standards for our battery suppliers, and we vigorously test the batteries that we allow in our systems for safety and for long life.
Charge in a hurry
Rapid Charge is a new feature available on the ThinkPad X1 laptop, our thinnest and lightest business laptop. The battery in the X1 is designed to charge up to 80% of its capacity in just 30 minutes. Even if you only have a few minutes to spare, this feature is perfect for plugging in and charging up in a pinch. The ThinkPad X1 is designed to last for at least 1,000 charge cycles, more than three times that of a normal battery.

Extend battery life with these steps:
- Avoid exposing your battery to heat. This includes resting your laptop on a pillow or blanket, which blocks air flow and makes the fan have to run more.
- Decrease screen brightness
- Turn off wireless when not needed
- Close graphics-heavy applications when not in use
- Set your laptop to automatically go into Standby after a set period of inactivity
- Avoid screensavers
- Buy an extended battery for times when you’ll need the extra charge

Stay unplugged even longer with the new ThinkPad Battery 27++. This rechargable nine-cell slice battery uses Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) technology and easily attaches to select T420, T520 and W520 ThinkPads to provide the ultimate all day computing experience.
